For years, the history of slavery has been Celebrated in America. It has been celebrated by erecting statues and monuments of Confederate leaders, naming military baseses after Confederate Leaders, and flying the confederate Flag. Some public schools are even named after Confederate leaders or have mascots that are symbols of Confederacy. North Caddo Magnet High School in Vivian, Louisiana is one of those public schools with a mascot that is a symbol of the Confederacy.
Generation after generation has requested that the racist Rebel mascot be removed from North Caddo High School as it is a constant reminder of deeply institutionalized racism in the South. The racist Rebel mascot is a constant reminder of the deadly threat to Black students. The racist Rebel mascot is a constant reminder of the pain and suffering of racial injustice that Black Americans have endured since being enslaved.
Former graduates, current students, and friends of North Caddo High School are demanding that the racist Rebel mascot be immediately removed so that this generational battle can finally end the institutionalized racism, deadly threats, pain, and suffering that has incurred at North Caddo High School since desegregation occurred in 1950 at this Caddo Parish school.
